CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday constituted a committee to suggest possible amendments to criminal and other relevant laws for speedy justice in crimes against women.
Former Kerala high court chief justice V K Bali would head the committee that would include Punjab advocate general Ashok Aggarwal besides former Punjab and Haryana high court judges Justice S K Jain and Justice Bakhshish Kaur.
An official spokesman said the committee would also look at required police reforms; integration with citizen bodies including panchayats as also the setting up of fast-track courts. "The committee may suggest various measures which could expedite the investigation, prosecution and trial as also provide for stringent punishment to the culprits of heinous crimes in cases of aggravated assault on women."
The committee would submit its report to the CM within 60 days for action and implementation.
